Hi All

Just thought to have a thread for the people applying to the Indian B schools for the class of 2012.

Lets pour in ideas, share information & thoughts, and mutually enrich/help each other !!

Little about me :

GMAT : 740
Work Exp : 5.5 years (IT) [this includes India and abroad]
Applied to ISB last year in Cycle 2 : Got the interview call but then got 'Dinged'

It would be great if people can share their experiences (pass/fail) through previous applications, if any.
Nonetheless, lets come up with a game plan for 2012

Did they tell you why you were dinged? Rather, why do you think you got dinged?

Hello everyone,
Have to repost my question, as here the discussion is live.
I am living in Russia and working in the consulting industry (HR-related) for 4 years already. I have decided to make a next step, taking a MBA course in Asia-Pacific or UK. One of the choices is ISB. I will probably not get 700 GMAT score, but I am not from IT industry which makes it less competetive for me
As far as I can understand, ISB has mainly local students intake, only 4% of international students in 2009. Is that number so small because there is small number of international applicants or because ISB is focused on local students mainly?
To rephrase my question - having less honours, lower academics results, and less GMAT score but being international applicant do I have better chances to get an offer from ISB?

The number is small because there is small number of international applicants. ISB loves diversification, so being an international candidate you have an edge over other candidates.

Glad to see the energy here for ISB! I am planning on Round1.
Btw just that you folks know, looks like R1 deadline has been preponed to August 30th this year. (Can't post URLs yet - but do check out the ISB admission director's blog)

Thanks for explaining very nicely..

1. Around how much time is reqd to prepare IIMA PGPX application..?? Is it possible after 1st or 2nd of Aug ( say i schedule my exam on these dates ??
2. Is it possible that the essay scores don't reach in time if i appear in GMAT on 1st or 2nd ?? as i need the essay scores as well while submitting my application ..

Thanks once again..

1. In IIMA PGPX application you don't need to write essays initially. Once your application is reviewed and accepted, then only you need to start writing the essays. In around 10-15 days you can comfortably complete your application (I'm assuming no essays are there. I would recommend to check the format in case they have changed it)
2. I got my GMAT official score in around 4 days. To be on safe side, you can keep 10-12 days. This will also give you sufficient time to fill the application.

It might help if you can get a recommendation from somebody of importance at the Indian Statistical Institute. That way even if your experience was not a permanent job you would manage to give some weight to those 1.8 yrs.

Really? This sounds promising! So even if I will have GMAT score below 630, they will take me just because I can make a diversification for the group?

Did I get it right, that next intake will be only for April 2012 and class for 2011 is already filled?
Thank you in advance for the answers

The application process will start sometime in June. If you are applying in Round 1, you'll have to submit your application sometime in September mid, and if you are planning to apply in Round 2, then you'll have to submit your application sometime in Dec or Jan. Completing the whole application would take around 1 month.

I would suggest to clear your gmat atleast 1 month prior to end date of application submission, so that you have sufficient time to focus on your application and essays.

Just turned to the FAQ on ISB website and found some relevant information on my question as well:
"- Will Indian and foreign applicants be evaluated on the same basis?
- Yes."
Now will do my best to be enrolled

Hello people,

I am sorry for jumping in late; i see some activity in here now. Let me contribute :

Renuka : I think your question has been answered, if you still need any info just shout
gsfromrussia : Being international will definitely add to diversity, but still a decent combination of score, work ex, and extra carricular would be required to build a strong case.
bigoyal : i see that you have been quite active on this forum (>700 posts ). I think you can definitely help with these :
Is there any other active post for people applying to Ind B schools for 2011-2012 ?
The thread for 2010-2011, does it consist of people appying for 2011-2012.?
Finally, whats your story? (nice score btw )
[Now atleast i know one person from Delhi who is up for 11-12 ]

Everybody, please contribute more and lets infuse this thread with information & energy !
