It sounds like you have some good internship experiences to draw upon. As you already know, your GPA and GMAT are both below average for the Texas MPA program. I would increase the GMAT to above avg. For the intangibles elements of your application- what attracts you to the profession of accounting? Why the UT McCombs MPA program?
First of all i want to wish you a very Merry Christmas. sorry for my late reply i have been back home for the vacation and havent been checking my posts often.
To answer your question about my interests in accounting. I was not sure for the longest time as to what i want to do. I was confused about a career in finance or accounting. I think its to do with development over time. The courses i enrolled in; the work i kept myself busy with; and over all my personal desire to learn more about the field. Another factor that drew me towards accounting was that my family owns a constrction business back home in india and i felt that accounting knowledge would help me realize the weaknesses and how to design a fool proof business plan thru the knowledge of internal audit. Finance on the other than didnt get me as interested. I wish to join UT or one of the other schools im applying to. Get my masters; then CPA and maybe work in the US for 4-5 years before making a move back home. or maybe joining a big four firm in india.
Another thing that attracted me towards a career as a CPA was the growth prospects. Especially in mid range accounting firms track to partner has become shorter over the years. I think they realized we nee to get people into partnership while they are still young and let them grow.
MBA seemed like a good option; but i need the hours to get the CPA and i feel to get into a good MBA program work experience is a must have.
Please advice me as to what you feel can strengthen my application. I know my GMAT is below UT standards. But for the GPa they said thy use upper level GPA for admission purposes so they will discount all my Cs or Bs in my earlier prep courses like history. They re calculate the GPA using courses from the last 2 years which for me is almost a 3.7
Thanks for your help. I;ll keep you posted as and when i learn from them
