It can be one of several other things that can make you stand out and that's my take on it...we can agree to disagree and let people form their own opinion..PEACE !

Multiply your statement 50 times for IT applicants who are all from India with stellar GMATs and good GPAs...YAAAWWWN ! Nothing to attract my attention if I were to read essays. Cleaning toilets sounds more different and interesting...careers goals is usually the first essay for any school and sets the tone for rest of the essays.

Khm... do you actually read my comments? What I say is that your goals are NOT what should distinguish you from other applicants in the same pool. Because even if it does , it does not give you any advantage in terms of admission chances. Please also note my last comment to <willget800>

I think both you guys (lhotseface and deowl) are hitting different points:

deowl - You're saying that one cannot distinguish onself by having unique career goals, its your background that should distinguish you from other applicants.

lhotseface - You are saying that you cannot have any advantage by making your goals very broad and general. Rather tie it to your background and explain why you want to do what you want to do....

...now did I crack this case or what 8-)

Its also worth noting that not everyone wants to pursue a career out of the thing they are most passionate about in their lives.. for whatever reason..maybe its lifestyle..maybe its money...who knows...

For me, my biggest passion in the world is music. I live for it. I'm a singer / songwriter.. I absolutely love the creative process of playing music and writing songs..

Will I make a career out of it? No... Do I talk about it in some my essays...Yes.. where appropriate though...

The point I'm trying to make is...be honest ... I'm sure adcoms can see right through an applicant who's sole passion in life is to be a managment consultant...

plus don't rock stars get laid more often?..haha
