Are all b-school admits over-achievers ? [#permalink]

Hi All,

I've been writing my essays and at times , I feel that all this essay work is actually glorifying every small thing that one has done. May be it's just a part of presenting yourselves in the best light . Or I don't get the whole point behind this process.

Also, I always get to hear that every b-school admit is an over-achiever .
Is that really so ? I honestly admit that I'm not an over-achiever though I do have some decent achievements to my credit.
Since there are so many smart current and former b-school students here on this forum, I would request you to share your opinion on this.
May be I'm thinking too much :)

yes, pretty much every b-school admit is an over-achiever.

i'm kidding but there's some truth to that. at Wharton, you don't have anyone who is relatively normal in terms of their career progression. at the very least, they excelled at something...whether it's school or career or in many cases, both.

for the most part, a guy who went to a regular top 50 type school and got Bs and Cs and worked at a no-name company for 2 years as an entry level employee and never got much more than the basic salary + minimal raises and scored a 600 on the GMAT and wrote mediocre essays saying "i sort of what to go to b-school because it's something to do"....doesn't get into a top b-school.

conversely, its exactly the type of over-achievers who don't need b-school are the ones who are most likely to get in.

In my last company, there was one guy the same age as me, who was promoted so many times that he's one step away from senior management. He doesn't need B-school at all.
