are GRE scores more important than GMAT scores? [#permalink] New post 22 Aug 2008, 14:34
After doing some research on the acceptance standards for a MF degree, almost all the data I found was for the GRE, not the GMAT, although they did say they could substitute. This is funny because I was under the impression that the GRE test was for Phds only. Can someone with experience on the subject clear up for me whether or not taking the GRE would be beneficial if I was considering a MF degree, being that I have already taken the GMAT?

How did you do on the GRE? if you think you get a better score on the GMAT, then take the GMAT. By better, I mean % wise. I believe there some similarities between the GMAT and GRE, but I have no experience with the GRE.

Your assumption that the GRE is only for Ph.D's is not right. The LSAT = Law school; GMAT = Business School; MCAT = Medical School; GRE = general master's degree program. That is my understanding of it. I have had 2 friends attend Harvard's KSG and they told me they had to take the GRE. Neither has a Ph.D. so it's certainly not only for Ph.D's.

A handful of Ultra Elite schools take the GRE for MBA admissions. MIT Sloan is one.

I have not yet taken the GRE, but I most likely will try to get a solid score on that test as well to keep my options open I guess. MS finance degree programs take both, whichever you give them, but they do prefer GRE (hard to compare them on apps and 90% take the GRE).
