Are recommendation forms generally the same across schools? [#permalink]
09 Nov 2007, 10:37
Do schools generally ask recommenders the same things about applicants so that the recommendation letters don't have to be completely re-done from school-to-school? I'm planning for next year and I don't want to over-burden my recommenders, especially the #2. If recommendations are completely unique then I'll limit the number of applications, but I'm hoping that schools understand this issue and keep their requests similar. Thanks!

They are similar but not identical. As long as you give plenty of notice and a packet of info for them then it shouldnt be too much work after the first one is complete. Some schools ask specific questions and give blocks, others just give general guidelines. Tell them to do the specific ones then take info from that for the others.
Recs are one of the most stressful parts of the process cause you have no control over them.

The question and content is generally the same for most recommendations. But, they are all unique in some way, whether it be formatting, or just how the question is asked, so that each recommendation should be at least somewhat tailored to each school. Generally, I think you can go to each school's website and download the recommendation form so that you can see what they ask. Since you have plenty of time, you can check them all out and see how closely they resemble each other.

I didn't realize recommendation forms are available before the formal application process begins...I'll check them out.
Thank you both for your help.
