If it is absolutely clear to wich noun it refers it should be ok; do you have an example?

In spoken English, yes. On the GMAT verbal section, no.

Example: "Bob and Jill ate dinner with Jim and Mary. They enjoyed it." In spoken English, one would logically assume that "they" refers to Bob and Jill and be correct 99% of the time. On the GMAT, however, this would be incorrect because it is possible that "they" could be referring to Jim and Mary.

For a SC problem to be correct on the GMAT, every pronoun must have a clear antecedent.
