Art museums do not usually think of their collections as capital or consider the interest income that would be generated if a portion of the capital would have been invested in another form.
(A) be generated if a portion of the capital would have been
>>> wrong use of would have been in if caluse
(B) have been generated if a portion of the capital would have been
>>> same as A
(C) be generated if a portion of the capital were
"a portion of capital" singular so wrong verb "were"
(D) be generated if a portion of the capital was
>>> Right
(E) be generated if a portion of the capital had been
>>> "No Need to use Past Perfect"

guys i am little confused about "E" , selected D cause it looks better .

Between C and D I would choose D for singular verb.

Ditto buzzgaurav!

"A portion of the capital" is singular .. so I'd pick D for singular verb 'was' rather than 'were' as in C.

C.

For possibility, but not exactly happening, use 'were'.

IMO 'a portion of the capital ' is a singular so D should be correct.

OA is C.

This is a SC 1000 question.

I think "a portion of" is singular and choose D.

Selene, why did you choose C?

Art museums do not usually think of their collections as capital or consider the interest income that would be generated if a portion of the capital would have been invested in another form.

>> This is an unreal conditional, so we should use the form "if sbj. were... , sbj. would V1" Even if the sbj. is singular you should use "were" ! That is the rule.

>> If I were you, I would not drive fast.
>>If his project were found impressive, he would be promoted.

So, I will make the wrong parts bold here:

(A) be generated if a portion of the capital would have been
(B) have been generated if a portion of the capital would have been
(C) be generated if a portion of the capital were CORRECT
(D) be generated if a portion of the capital was
(E) be generated if a portion of the capital had been

Hope this helps ..

Which one is correct?

a) If I were in the team, I would have taken that initiative.
b) If I was in the team, I would have taken that initiative.

In conditionals we use "were" in the if clause for each sbj.

If she were reading her book, she would keep the lights on.
