I narrowed it down to B and D because they are in the active voice. Then I choose D because I didn't think "or" was correct.

I dont think you can eliminate A,C and E on the basis of the usage of 'it' because you can use 'it' when referring to a person whose gender is unknown.
e.g When is the baby due?
(When is it due?)

In A 'it' is ambiguous. In C,E maybe you are right: 'its' is not worse than 'with'. :?

I think one can eliminate C due to the presence of the semi colon.
There should be a comma instead.
