My answer is E

Since its "of the different species", the use of "the" is needed to identify those that can be preserved.

(C)'s usage of "within" is uncecesssary, IMO

moreoever C changes meaning:
withing the rainforest

rainforest should be plural or it should be"
within a rainforest
