As I plod :beatup along at 8km/hr from my house to the bus stop, I miss the damn :angry bus by a minute. Conversely, if I walk at 10 km/hr, I reach the buss stop 2 minutes early. What is the distance between my house and the bus stop?

a. 3.2 kms
b. 4
c. 5
d. 2
e. 1.5

8x(t+1)=10x(t-2) , t=14 or 8x15 min =10x 12 min so Distance=2 km

I got 2 too..

suppose x is distance in miles..
x/8-x/10=3/60 ....
solve for x....(distance=2)

I solved it the same way. But only because I knew the formula. Does anyone know the actual reasoning behind why we subtract the x/8 and x/10? and combine the minutes?

Time = Distance / Rate. Using this formula we can find the time. But we don't have the distance. So, we assume the distance as x.

1st time taken will be x/8
2nd time taken will be x/10

As x/8 will takes more time than the x/10 we subtract the second one to get the result.

Do I make sense ??
