A. As it is with traditional pharmacies, online drugstores rely on prescriptions to be successful
B. As with the case of traditional pharmacies, online drugstores rely on prescriptions to have success
C. As is the case with traditional pharmacies, prescriptions are the cornerstone of a successful online drugstore
D. As traditional pharmacies, so online drugstores rely on prescriptions to be successful
E. Like traditional pharmacies, the cornerstone of a successful online drugstore is prescriptions

B and D can be eliminated.
D uses "as..so" which is not the correct comparison.
B "to have success" is wrong.

That leaves A, C and E.
In E - the "like pharmacies" should have been followed with a drugstore and not cornerstone. So this has a modifier problem.
In A , the "as it is with" is incorrect. What is "it" referring to ?

That leaves C.
Another way to check C is to flip the sentence around a bit so that it reads as :

Prescriptions are the cornerstone of a successful online drugstore, as is the case with traditional pharmacies, since it is primarily prescriptions that attract the customers, who then also buy other health-related items.
Now you will see that the 2nd "it" correctly refers to prescriptions.

A. As it is with traditional pharmacies, online drugstores rely on prescriptions to be successful it has no clear antecedent
B. As with the case of traditional pharmacies, online drugstores rely on prescriptions to have success incorrect idiom and case is compared with online drugstores
C. As is the case with traditional pharmacies, prescriptions are the cornerstone of a successful online drugstore
D. As traditional pharmacies, so online drugstores rely on prescriptions to be successful in correct idiom. Correct idiom is Just as X..so Y
E. Like traditional pharmacies, the cornerstone of a successful online drugstore is prescriptions traditional pharmacies are compard with cornerstone

C is correct here

IF I revise A (eliminate IT) like this :
As is with traditional pharmacies, online drugstores rely on prescriptions to be successful

What will happen? Then is A correct?

[quote="lexisIF I revise A (eliminate IT) like this :

There is still something missing in the comparison.

"As is <what> with traditional pharmacies"..
and this <what> is being compared with onlne drugstores here in the modified sentence

so C correctly fills this gap by comparing the "state of being" or a feature of the two types of drugstores correctly by using the idiomatic "as is the case"

hope that helps.

in questions like these, try to get the logical comparison down first. you will be able to eliminate 2, probably 3 incorrect choices, then its a matter of grammar rules.

ouch...

"since it is primarily prescriptions that attract the customers" is "it" referring to "the case"?

I think the first part of A is OK. it is fine to start out a sentence like that, without and precedence."

IMO B

As it is with traditional pharmacies, online drugstores rely on prescriptions to be successful, since it is primarily prescriptions that attract the customers, who then also buy other health-related items.

A. As it is with traditional pharmacies, online drugstores rely on prescriptions to be successful
what does it refer to??
B. As with the case of traditional pharmacies, online drugstores rely on prescriptions to have success
C. As is the case with traditional pharmacies, prescriptions are the cornerstone of a successful online drugstore
Wrong modifier use and wrong idiom (idiom is As...is...so)
D. As traditional pharmacies, so online drugstores rely on prescriptions to be successful
Idiom must be As is so....
E. Like traditional pharmacies, the cornerstone of a successful online drugstore is prescriptions
Like must be used to compare like things....use of like here is wrong.

though i am bit skeptical because i think "online drugstore" should come right after comma but then no other choice is as convincing as C imo.

a) As it is with traditional pharmacies, on-line drugstores rely on prescriptions to be
successful

Comparing situation of TP with OLD, wrong

b) As with the case of traditional pharmacies, on-line drugstores rely on prescriptions
to have success

Same as A

c) As is the case with traditional pharmacies, prescriptions are the cornerstone of a
successful on-line drug store

comparing situation of TP with OLD. Hold

d) As traditional pharmacies, so on-line drugstores rely on prescriptions to be
successful

Just as X so Y is the correct idiom.

More over it should use Like to compare TP and OLD

e) Like traditional pharmacies, the cornerstone of a successful on-line drugstore is
prescriptions

Uses Like but compares TP to Cornerstone of OLD

My pick C. I was not sure whether there was another idiom As X so Y. Also, different words are used in C. I picked D to start with but when I made the comparison, I let it go. What is the OA?

A. As it is with traditional pharmacies, online drugstores rely on prescriptions to be successful
B. As with the case of traditional pharmacies, online drugstores rely on prescriptions to have success //'as' is used but no clause comparision
C. As is the case with traditional pharmacies, prescriptions are the cornerstone of a successful online drugstore
D. As traditional pharmacies, so online drugstores rely on prescriptions to be successful //awkward
E. Like traditional pharmacies, the cornerstone of a successful online drugstore is prescriptions //wrong comparision

you are comparing traditional phatmacies and online drug stores (actions).

only A makes sense.
