OA is E.

The subject of the main clause is the singular noun company, which must be followed by the singular pronoun it.

A and B uses wrong pronoun They for singular company.

C is awkward.
D uses redundant previously and past together

So E is the last man standing.

E for me.

A is wrong because "they" changes the meaning of the sentence. The same for B. C is redundant: in the past.....previously... ; The same for D. E is good because "it" refers to company.

What I am confused about here is the phrase: it would in the past have conceded to rivals.

Would in the past trigger that the sentence must be written in past tense rather than "have conceded to". That's where I am getting confused..could any one please clarify?

Yeah the usage of 'have' in this sentence and the choices is so confusing.

On the first read, it looked the sentence was missing a 'that' so I choose C though it was wordy!

I agree with the answer E:

A. The singular subject "company" does not correspond to the plural pronoun "they."

B. Same as A.

C. In the past and previous are redundant in this case.

D. Same as C.

E. This can be the only correct answer choice. The use of "it" is correct because it refers back to "the company" and the present perfect tense makes sense.

Here the subject is company (singular) so "it " should come . D is incorrect as D " previously" and " in the past " are redundant. So E is the correct answer.

A) they would in the past have conceded to rivals
Subject-Verb number agreement error. companies -> it
B) they would have conceded previously to their rivals
Subject-Verb number agreement error. companies -> it, their -> its
C) that in the past would have been conceded previously to rivals
redundancy
D) it previously would have conceded to rivals in the past
redundancy
E) it would in the past have conceded to rivals
Correct.
Since the underlined portion is a clause, better if it is connected to the preceding clause with a proper connector such as "which".
But the correct answer is the one that remains after eliminating answer choices that are bad in comparison.

E it would in the past have conceded to rivals

I aggree e is best.
but there is a problem in E. "would have done" show a unreal action which is certain to happen in the past. the use of would have done is not logic here. I think e should be,

it in the past conceded to rivals.

am i correct?. pls, help
