(A) As more and more people invest their money
(B) While people have more and more been investing their money
Wrong - 'have more and more been investing' not idiomatic
(C) As money is more and more invested by people
Wrong. 'More and More money' is idiomatic.
(D) More and more, when investors put their money
Wrong. The when clause seems to modify the 'More and More'. Also results in a run on sentence.
(E) While, more and more, investors have been putting their money
Using while gives the idea that At the same time people are putting money in bonds and they are moving away from passbook savings.
Answer is A. It rightly takes the Cause and effect form - 'As people do X, Y results'

Wait a min people, not too fast. If we remove the 'unnecessary' part of the sentence (in red), we have:
As more and more people invest their money in savings, certificates or money-market funds in order to earn higher interest, they are abandoning traditional low-interest investment havens.
Is it right to say: ....people...they are abandoning? I eliminated (A) because i expected the sentence to read thus:
As more and more people invest their money in savings certificates or money-market funds in order to earn higher interest, they abandon traditional low-interest investment havens.
So, of all the choices, i couldn't select a right choice, though it seems pretty simple to some.
Please help!

A is the lesser of all evils. Though i have doubts about 'more and more'. Is this GMAT grammar?

I think the lesser of all evils is D. like AW said, i dont think A is idiomatically correct and although D slightly changes the meaning of the original, i think it´s correct grammer and usage.
Here it is with option D and the unnecessary part again in Red.
More and more, when investors put their money in savings, certificates or money-market funds in order to earn higher interest, they are abandoning traditional low-interest investment havens.
sounds better, doesn´t it?

A is just fine. Look at the non underlined portion where "they" specifically referes to people, so use of their is fine. Moreover we need a conjuction which will attach a DC with IC. In this sentence it can only start with As or while.
B is awkward, sepearting more and more people from money.
C passive mode
D IC and IC wrong
E what is the need of putting more and more in commas
A is best.

You're over-thinking this one. Perfectly normal contruction in (A).
As people invest their savings, they are abandoning...
They is simply a pronoun with antecedent people. The initial phrase is an adverb phrase modifying the action in the remainder of the sentence.
Similar examples:
As I entered the room, I saw my friends.
As Bob invests his monthly savings, he is gradually building up a nest-egg.
As people eat more and more junk food, they are getting ever fatter.

No. D is grammatically correct, but it changes the meaning of the sentence in an unacceptable way. In the original, more and more is an adjective quantifying people. It is saying that their is an ever-increasing number of people who are committing the action being reported.
D changes it so that more and more is an adverb that intensifies the action of abandoning. That is not what this sentence means, we can't change the meaning that much.
Also, if it seems to you that AC (A) somehow sounds bad, I suggest you pound it into your brain, because it is a good sentence, perfectly fine, not a thing wrong with it. You may be having trouble with dependent clause+independent clause sentences, which in grammar are called "complex" sentences.

This Q got me because it goes against the OG's rules.
In one of the OG's questions I selected an answer that opened a sentence with "AS". That answer turned out to be wrong. The OG's reasoning was: "Beginning a phrase with "AS" is incorrect". Since then I've been eliminating every answer that started a sentence with "AS". This technique worked for all the OG's questions.
I assume that this particular question is not from the OG or the Verbal.
Good question anyways.

Good question anyways. Can you give us that question? I don't see anything wrong with opening a sentence with "as".
