E make unnecessary use of "have been". A should be it.

I choose A.
in this case is "abandoning" a gerund? My understanding of gerunds is pretty weak.

C - passive voice B,E -- present perfect continous tense.. which is not required.

abandoning indicates the progressive tense of the verb, whereas the underlinied portion is using the simple tense.
"E" is the only answer choice which corrects this mistake.

This is a perfect examle of how too much thinking is bad in SC. All of the answer choices except A sound outright wierd. If it sounds weird, it is not the correct answer.

I chose A. I think we need a simple tense, so B and E out. C- is passive voice- out. In D, "when investors...." sounds like a subordonate clause, so what we do with "they" from the second clause? On the other hand, A sounds better.

Comparision between two clauses. A is also in direct, clear and active

Hi,
I believe what he is talking about comparison is the clause before the comma and the clause after the comma. This is why 'As' is correct and required there.

Two clasues can be combined only by conjunction or semi-colon (;) or comparitives such as "as", just as", contrast words etc......
