IMHO "learning to live with their disabilities" is preferable to "learning to live during 1950 with their disabilities" - the latter creates ambiguity in meaning.

So (B),(C) are put.

I also think that the sentence shouldn't start with phrase "As part of their therapy", because it's unclear, who are we talking about - noun "polio victims" isn't introduced yet. (A) is out as well as (E)

(D) is left. I don't see any clear grammar or meaning errors in it.

133. As part of their therapy, young polio victims learning to live with their disabilities were helped to practice falling during the 1950s, so that they could learn to fall without being hurt.
(A) As part of their therapy, young polio victims learning to live with their disabilities were helped to practice falling during the 1950s
Correct. They refers clearly to the young polio victims as this follows they immediately!

(B) As part of their therapy, young polio victims learning to live during the 1950s with their disabilities were helped to practice falling
young polio victims should be along with the practise part.

(C) Young polio victims learning to live during the 1950s with their disabilities were helped to practice falling as part of their therapy
(D) Young polio victims learning to live with their disabilities were helped to practice falling during the 1950s as part of their therapy
(E) During the 1950s, as part of their therapy, young polio victims learning to live with their disabilities were helped to practice falling

For C, D, E ....I dont find them better than A....

IMO A....... OA pls?

"E"
(E) During the 1950s, as part of their therapy, young polio victims learning to live with their disabilities were helped to practice falling

polio victims practice falling, so that they could learn to fall without being hurt. End of the sentence modifies "practice falling" and not the "time" or "therapy"

I'm happy to help with this. :-)

I guess I don't think of this as a particularly GMAT-like SC question. What is the source?

It appears there are no strict grammatical errors, and much of the sentence revolves around rearranging the pieces to create a less awkward order.

For example, the phrase "during the 1950s" ---- that phase is an overall description, not a description specifically of when these folks were "falling" or "learning to live" ----- the best location of this phrase at the beginning, set of by comma, adjacent to the part about the therapy (which was specific to that era). That leads to (E) as the best answer, but it's really not a model of fine English, and the differences between this and the other answer is not powerful. On a real GMAT SC, almost always some of the answer choices for each question are unambiguously grammatically incorrect --- many times, there are four grammatically incorrect answers and only one possible correct answer. Here, the differences are far less stark.

That's my 2 cents. This is the kind of question that actually makes me suspicious about the quality of the source.

Mike :-)

(E) During the 1950s, as part of their therapy, young polio victims learning to live with their disabilities were helped to practice falling

I fell for D.

Can somebody tell why E is correct?
doesn't the part "During the 1950s, as part of their therapy, young..." introduce a double modifier?

Thanks,
Vivek

E

The most prevalent difficult/expensive disease was Polio, and even in 1950 dollars, Pharma and its allies made billions annually from polio treatments, such as iron lungs. Suddenly, by 1960, thanx to TWO separate scientists, polio was gone…India was the last to kill it, in 1959, and the billionaires said “THAT’S IT!

In 1962–63 two powerful Dem politicians sucked JFK into believing the rlues should be changed, but they never said “No More Cures.” USA MDs who cure cancer in the 21st century go to pr ison. Other top medical scientists get murdered or disappear. Ignorant MDs deny this and the smart ones lie. One argued with me about a successful hepatitis drug which actually did cure.

A is a run on sentence

B separates "with their disabilities" from "young polio victims", we need those two phrases together

C same issue as B

D another run on sentence

E resolves a lot of the issues and reduces the primary phrase to "young polio victims learning to live with their disabilities were helped to practice falling". It also answers why at the start, "as part of their therapy", and when!
