definitely between D and E... I think "like" is used in the wrong context so going with E as the answer.

The rarer something becomes, whether it is a baseball card or a musical recording or a postage stamp, the more avidly it is sought by collectors.

I think it is E. like is used to compare nouns. Hence the use of like in D is incorrect.

add a vote for E.

the list of examples should be introduced wtih "such as" -- not "like".

E fo me too. The sentence is parallel The rarer ... the more avidly... and whether is appropriately used to introduce a few choices.

I think WHETHER is used here as emphasizing on the items. Whatever their use/monetary value are. LIKE is incorrect usage here.

E, of course!

I wasn't sure about the usage of 'rarer' since we non natives prefer to use 'More rare' and selected the choice E based just on the usage

turns out, the usage 'rarer' perfectly OK

http://www.quora.com/English-language/W ... -more-rare

thanks!
