A: wrong: To include "as well as", I think we need "and" before jewelry
B: It changes the meaning. We are talking about "the development", not about the civilization itself. It doesn't make sense.
C: In this case, "as" needs a clause.
D: "as" needs a clause.
E: Awkward, but the best of the rest.


I liev in Peru, where the Inca civilization flourished 8-)

The invalidity of the other answer choices has already been explained.

(E) is the best choice because it correct compares the recording of the development of the Inca civilization with the recording of the histories of other ancient civilizations (by inserting the verb 'were'). If the verb had not been inserted, the comparison would have been incorrect.
