E. The honeybee’s stinger is heavily barbed and stays where it is inserted, with the result that the act of stinging causes

Needs "...causes the bee to sustain .... "

Eliminating A, B, D

Narrow Choices: C, E

C has "The honeybee’s stinger, ... results in the fact that the act of stinging causes"

implying stinger results in... which is illogical.

Answer: E

E.

A - 'staying where it is inserted' incorrectly appears as a non-restrictive clause.
B - 'As...with the result' do not go together. Only one of them is required.
C - Again, an incorrect non-restrictive clause.
D - Incorrect modifier - 'The heavily barbed stinger... results'
E - $$$

E is correct.
" it stays where it is inserted."....this results in the bee to sustain injury.
