I'm an older applicant (36 at matriculation) with significant work experience (15 years at matriculation, last 5 in a senior management role). I recently completed a Master's degree, and have maintained excellent linkages with my academic department. I am applying to Saïd in Round 1, and had planned on using one academic reference (my M.A. supervisor, who is Oxon) and one professional reference (my boss, the top manager of our organization). However, I could also solicit strong recommendations from several other academic referees who can attest to my (scholastic) work. Thus, my question is whether my application would be better served by strong academic recommendations from respected scholars who are also Oxford alumni, or by employing an academic/professional referee split? I expect a reasonably good recommendation from my current boss, but I am curious how much weight the advocacy of alumni would carry, given that my substantial work experience could be followed-up on independently of the recommendation letters.
I'd appreciate any advice you could give in this matter!
