I think A sounds itself correct, since "persisiting should belong to the particles and not the big bang.

'C' is my choice.
...molecules 'created' in the progenitive explosion and 'persisted' in even the emptiest regions of space.
parallelism is maintained between 'created' and 'persisted'

Astronomers have theorized that the Big Bang governs the behavior of interstellar dust, particles that comprise the atoms and molecules created in the progenitive explosion and persisted in even the emptiest regions of space.
"... interstellar dust, (which are) particles that ..."
the phrase after the comma explains the "dust" and
molecules created ... and persisted ...
should be || .

also "B" because i understand, we are talking about "Particles" (who comprise of atoms and molecules) and not "atoms and molecules"!
so, particles comprise ... and persists ....
Help appreciated!
Please, let us know OA soon!!
Lets ace together!!

I will pick A.
"Have" signals present perfect...particles continue to persist.
Since persist isn't one of the the options..A and E are the options that signal the ongoing nature of things.

A. persisting B. persists C. persisted D. they persist E. are persisting

A. persisting
B. persists --> singular whereas particles is plural
C. persisted --> wrong tense
D. they persist --> inaccurately points to compounded noun 'atoms and molecules'
E. are persisting --> awkward
I will pick A by POE

If this is the case then B should be the answer.

Big bang does not persist in even the emptiest regions of space. That changes the meaning of the para. 'persists' was for the particles and hence incorrect.
persisted is also incorrect as again it should refer to particles and not the molecules.
A by POE.
