At Daifu university, 40% of all students are both members of a student organization and want to reduce their tuition costs. 20% of those students who want to reduce tuition are not members of the student organization. What percentage of all Daifu students want to reduce tuition?

20% 30% 40% 50% 60%
Can this question be solved using a Venn Diagram where three circles represent, 1.) members 2.) non members 3.)students who want to reduce tuition?

My ans is 60% (40+20). 40% are both and 20% wants to reduce only tution fees. therefore, total 60% wants to reduce tution fees

Answer is (D) = 50%
Let's call X the total number of students, C the number of students that are both members of a student organization and want to reduce their tuition costs and D the number of students that want to reduce their tuition costs but are not members of a student organization.
We know that : C = 40% X and D = 20% (C + D) i.e. D = 1/4 C
Ratio we want is (C + D) / X = 5/4 * C / X = 5/4 * 40% = 50%
