Agree 'A' it is.
A. in the stratosphere
>> Best! "At the gound, it does this but in the stratosphere, it does that"
B. in the stratosphere, in which
>> Creates sentence fragment
C. it is in the stratosphere in which
>> Creates sentence fragment
D. in the stratosphere where
>> Creates sentence fragment
E. it is in the stratosphere and
>> Changes the meaning

A, the explaination is ||ism, At ground level, it is, in the..... it is
here is a hint, if you get stuck on this and don't know where to start, take out B and C because "which" is usually used wrong in most GMAT SC questions. Now you are down to A D and E. E is awkward and wordy, so if you are down to D and A, you got a 50 50, and then ask yourself is "where" neccessary???? nope, go with A, the right answer

Vivek,
Yup OA is A.
but i have a doubt.
but in the stratosphere it shields the Earth from the ...most
Why this "it" is not ambigous here as it can refer to stratosphere or ozone.
Agree that B is sentence fragment ..just over looked it

My choice is 'A'. All other answer choices are either awkward or redundant wih unnecessary words.

Sorry for the late response cj,
Your doubt is valid, let us substitute both the antecedants & read!
At ground level, ozone is a harmful pollutant, but in the stratosphere stratosphere shields the Earth from the most.......blah.....blah
>> stratosphere in the stratosphere sounds illogical (moreover, stratosphere is an atmosperic layer around the earth!)
At ground level, ozone is a harmful pollutant, but in the stratosphere ozone shields the Earth from the most.......blah.....blah
>> Makes sense, also we have already talked about ozone, in the first part of the sentence, so overall the sentence is doing comparision of ozone at different positions!
Does it help?
