C it is. Means the avg is brought down drastically by one or more employees that are much below 42k.

A - Even if there were more lower earning PT's than DT's....the avg will still not be lower than 42k. Avg will tend to be closer to the lower of the two (which is 42k) but not below.

B and E are out because they can actually mean that the avg would lean more towards the higher bracket than the lower bracket. Typical Au contraire choices.

D - surely cant be a conclusion that can be drawn. Provides another data that can mean nothing.

I am going ahead with E.

In the averages, we cannot talk about the lowest values as the higher values do compensate for it.
However, the highest value does make sense in arriving at E.

I try to come out with better answer in terms of numbers.

OA please 8-) 8-)

Excellent question. I think it is C.

A may not be true. There may be only two PT whose salaries are 43K and 41K and 100 other DTs whose salary spans from 35 to 60K
B may not be true. In my above case there were many DTs below 42K. So gone.
C Yes, this sd be true to drag the overall average below 42K. He or his group sd hv the lowest salary average.
D may not be true. In my example for A, the two PTs got more than 35K (the lowest paid DT).
E Seems more near the correct answer. But, lets consider another case.
There may be only two PT whose salaries are 70K and 14K (ave = 42K) and 100 other DTs whose salary spans from 35 to 60K (ave = 50K). In this case, there is no DT who gets more than the highest paid PT (70K).

Too long explanation?
