c) Attending to the basic needs of employees creates an environment where they flourish and one that encourages them to perform to their capacity.

I really had a problem with the word "them" and "they." cause ever answer choice uses both and I really didn't understand whether they were referring to "needs" or "employees." I thought the word those 2 words could confuse a reader for the referent. Can someone explain which word do both these 2 words refer to?? thanks

We must consider only the answers with "by", in order to give a sense of "by means of". E. is incorrect.

Basically, I am trying to understand the sentence structure and attempt some rules. This is to beat the time and obviously it is not working...
Should I assume that there is a typo error in 'E' it is not 'an' but 'and' encourage
Is 'A' the OA...
In A -
'Attending to the basic needs of employees' - noun clause where employess is at the receiving end hence an object
an environment where they flourish is created - here modfier where modifies environment by describing action done by employees, hence they refer to the subject..
and that encourages them... - here employees is the object like 'something encourages them'

I pick C.
A makes no sense; Eliminate.
The use of 'that' in B is incorrect; Eliminate
D changes the meaning of the sentence - instead of being an explanation, it's now an instruction. Eliminate
E makes no sense.
In C 'one' correctly refers to environment. Further, 'they' and 'their' can logically refer only to 'employees'.

C for me
A- it appears as "an environment is attending to the basic needs
B- Who is "you"refer to- unambiguous
E- Same as A
D and C are close, but D its not clear who the author saying to...
I like C

I think it's C because the verb refers to "attending to the basic need...." so it must be "creates", and C is the only one that satisfies the subject-verb agreement.

obviously the word "they" is referring to employees, but i can't understand why because i thought pronouns don't usually refer to words that come after the preposition "of" unless words such as "that" or any other relative pronouns are placed right after the word that comes after "of." can anyone provide a grammatical explanation?

Not sure why so much fuss. C is def the answer. Guess some questions are harder for others as is the case with me.
A: this isnt even a complete sentence.
B: awkward. use of "you" is probably not good in the case either
D: Again this isnt a complete sentence.
E: only one that even contends with C. This is def. incorrect though b/c "and encourages" is not very clear here.
