Average GMAT Prep Time? [#permalink]

I know it can vary with individual circumstances but, especially for you 700+ scorers, how long did you take to prep before writing the GMAT?

I am aiming for May-ish and by then it will have been roughly 5 months studying for me. I try to put in 15+ solid hours per week. Is that too short, too long, just right?

3.5 months of real study time and 4 months from start to the end.
Studied probably 20 hours a week or so, plus 5-10 hours per week of reading English fiction books.

I agree with BB on the time frame he suggested. There was a thread on here a while back (I couldn't find it for you) but it was a poll on how many hours people spent on GMAT prep. While a lot of people (in the past) said that 100 hours was more than sufficient, the poll figures suggested that many, many people studied for 200 to 250 hours and even some over the 300 hour mark for this exam. It really highlighted how different people can be because there was some people that studied 100 hours or less and achieved a score of 700+ while some people who studied 200+ hours were struggling to reach the 600 mark....................

So you get the famous answer to your question: it depends.

TSD,

I guess your right. Its so unique to the individual that it renders any generalizations meaningless. I may end up being closer to 6 months when its all said and done.

It'll all be worth it when I get that acceptance letter in the mail about this time next year though!!
