Hello,

As I am preparing myself for the GMAT I am focusing mostly on Quant and Verbal. However, I want to I spend enough time on AWA to make sure that 1) I don't freeze and 2) I don't expend a lot of energy writing the essays. What kind of time do you think I should spend on AWA preparation? How many essays did you type before the actual exam? I already have templates...

Also, how many questions does the set of possible topics have? Are the questions different for each year? How can I find good sample essays from the most current set of questions?

Thanks!

OG11 has like a TON of sample essay questions in the AWA section.

I practiced AWA *once*, but I'm a native English speaker (you probably can't tell with my horrible internet grammar ;)), so all I needed was to remember the template, and try it out once on a test, and that was good enough for me. Everyone's different, so maybe do it on one or two different topics, timed, and see if you can finish. It doesn't have to be good, as long as your structure is correct and your grammar is good and varied. I have friends who didn't even finish their conclusion and still got a 6.0 on the AWA.

I agree with kryzak in that you shouldn't stress about AWA that much. But it does depend on your experience with writing in English in general. As a non-native speaker, I found the Arco AWA book very helpful. It provides examples of essays on most if not all the topics listed by GMAC and it gives you "templates" to use for the Issue and Argument essays. I think I read 10-20 essays to get a feel of how to approach the essays and maybe wrote 2 essays of each type under timed conditions.
