Isn't it virtually unheard of for people that enter a reputable fulltime MBA program not to finish in the alloted 2 years? I guess I am not seeing how people could actually be failing classes if that is the case.

I'm not sure what you mean, but I can tell you that at Duke, almost no one ever fails a class. They're out to get the entire class through the entire 2-year program. If you never show up, are a total jerk, and then bomb all the assignments, then sure, you might fail. But who does that? If you show up, make a real effort, and act like you care, you're not going to bomb.

As AAu said, very few people will not finish the program (about 0.5 - 1%) in the alotted time, the main reasons being split roughly evenly in between academic and personal. The latter includes leaving to start a company.
