B.The first balloon passengers were a sheep, a duck , and a rooster that ascended from versailles, france, in a basket beneath a hot air balloon in september 1783.

C. A sheep, a duck , and a rooster were the first balloon passengers that ascended from versailles, france, in a basket beneath a hot air balloon in september 1783.

A, D AND E are all nonsensical stuff.

Please provide your answer with proper reasoning behind it( Which in this case might refer to pronoun referant concepts)

Between the two I think C is better. The reason is that in B the modifier 'that' could be misunderstood to refer only to the 'rooster''. Whereas in C that refers to the balloon passengers, which is okay.

Having said this, I would have prefered using the pronoun "who" instead of the modifer restrictive modifer that.

First, lets have the whole SC here for people to see

The first balloon passeneers were a sheep. a duck. and a
rooster that were ascended
from Versailles, France, in a
basket beneath a hot-air balloon in September 1783.
(A) The first balloon passengers were a sheep, a duck,
and a rooster that were ascended
(B) The first balloon passengers were a sheep, a duck,
and a rooster that ascended
(C) A sheep, a duck, and a rooster were the first balloon
passengers that ascended
(D) A sheep, a duck, and a rooster that were the first
balloon passengers to ascend
(E) A sheep, a duck, and a rooster were the first balloon
passengers ascending

Now for the answers. I choose C. My first try was D where I missed 'that were the first baloon passengers' (I need to control this silly mistakes thing), but am confident of C being the answer

crackgmat750,

You pasted two answer choices, B and C and said that the answer is A. Do you mean B?
