So I am still not pleased with my quant section performance but some of the solicitations from schools in the 20s or below suggest to me that they don't really care about the breakdown... they seem to just care about total score... Is total score really the concern if a score is trying to improve its numbers and your breakdown doesn't really matter?

Posting your GMAT score and breakout would help us give you feedback.

I know the feeling Mark...

same deal as you, 720, 78% on Quant, 97% on Verbal... don't think the emails from the schools are promises of acceptances or anything. they're probably just looking at your overall score/% and spamming all viable candidates...

Yes... but I wonder if what we consider to be a low quant score is considered as terrible once you drop out of the top 15. I think maybe not.

I got 710 with 46Q (80th) and 42V. During an MIT presentation I asked the adcom member whether I should retake it. He asked what my undergrad studies where, and when I said "Engineering" he answered "You are OK, then".

I wouldn't know which would be the cutoff or which would be the "right undergrad" to show you can handle the quant despite low subsection as I did not bother to ask further, though.

Hope it helps. L.
