This is a case of subjenctive verb hence A should be correct. milind1979 wrote: 20. A is the right answer. The idiom goes like this "REQUIRE X Y"....... require X to be Y is not the correct usage.

It seems this is very easy question if you know the rules. Please refer Manhattan GMAT. require.... (A (ask), B (bag), O (order), P (prefer), U (urge) R (require) (ABPOUR): If you come across any of these verbs then they need either "bare form" or "infinitive form" after that. Here it requires "bare from" because, construction of sentence is as follow, require that "subject" "bare form of verb" and "bare form"....(if that is not there then we need infinitive form).

(A) be complete and follow a prescribed format (B) is complete and it follows a prescribed format (C) be complete and a prescribed format is followed (D) to be complete and a prescribed format be followed (E) be completed, and it followed a prescribed format Some thoughts:1. Require that X be Y: Example: The law requires that they be regular. 2. Require X to do Y: Example: The law requires the women to do their duties. Now, come to the sentence: the structure of the sentence is "require that X be Y". So, B and D are out at a first glance. C is out for using "prescribed", and E is out for using another clause. Answer is A.

Parallelism is also an issue..
require...complete...follow
A is the only logical statement

"require that X be Y" is key. "Bankers require that the financial information ...... be complete and ...follow..." The best response in line with the correct idiom is option A.

I believe you need to use be and follow, because the active verb is require. It would be incorrect to use is or follows.

Information cannot folllow a prescribed fromat. The doer is not presents in the sentences. When the doer is not present, passive voice is perfect. Cannot be A as an OA.

I CHose 'A'. Also "Require to be" and "Consider to be" are wrong in GMAT.

Re: Sentence Correction .........5 [#permalink]

The answer is A - correct as is. Two possible explanations that I can think of: (1) Idiom: "require X be Y" OR(2) MGMAT SC Strategy Guide's definition: command subjective is used with "bossy verbs" (require in this example) require the verb form "to be" to follow after the verb. Here's an example: The President requests that you be present at the meeting. Another item to look for in this question is parallelism: "complete" and "follow" should be parallel. Before the second verb (follow), "be" is understood, so it doesn't need to be explicitly stated.

'be' is used here as a verb in active voice. e.g. It is necesary that I be myself. 'follow' is also in active voice. So A has parallel use of verb
