Agree with A. The other confusing answer could be E but E does not make sense because it implies that the weather was "often present"; how can the weather be sometimes not present?

If we choose "A", Isn't it a problem of Apple and Orange, bcoz we are comparing presence of baseball with weather instead of weather's presence.
"D" seems more sound then "A" to me. Please clear my doubts.

I'm not sure how to explain how D is not as good as A other than to say that I don't like D's construction: "Baseball... was so present..." --> It doesn't sound good to my ears. I'm sure someone can explain this better than I do

I go with E on this. A yes is parallel, but it sounds awful. Though I may be wrong as GMAT english is usually odd when it comes to difficult q's.
I think part of the problem is that the underlined part should not included was. If it does then E is out for sure. But I think it was a mistake.
E is clear and concise.
Baseball, ....., was present and discussed as the weather was.
I dunno, I could be going down the.... on this one
I stand corrrected.. yes, check out the link below..
