Let's look at second part of the sentence: "and that this robe depicted scenes of a battle between Zeus, Athena’s father, and giants."

First part of the sentence should be parallel - it should also contain "that" clause.

It's obvious that only (D) makes the sentence parallel:

Records from ancient Athens indicate that each year young Athenian women collaborated to weave a new woolen robe with which they dressed statue of the goddess Athena and that this robe depicted scenes of a battle between Zeus, Athena’s father, and giants.

Both "that" clauses serve as objects of the main clause, they describe the things that are indicated by ancient Athenian records.

Furthermore, (A) and (B) should not be considered as correct answers because both of them begin with dangling modifiers - "Based on records from ancient Athens" - what is based on records? There is no appropriate noun following after

Is the option C wrong because , it uses the wrong modifier ? Or is there any other error ?

1) what is "According to records from ancient Athens" modifying in Option C ?
2) Difference between Modifier in option C and that of A and B options.

Based on records from ancient Athens, each year young Athenian women collaborated to weave a new woolen robe that they used to dress a statue of the goddess Athena and that this robe depicted scenes of a battle between Zeus, Athena's father, and giants.

A. Based on records from ancient Athens, each year young Athenian women collaborated to weave a new woolen robe that they used to dress

B. Based on records from ancient Athens, young Athenian women had collaborated to weave a new woolen robe with which to dress

C. According to records from ancient Athens, each year young Athenian women collaborated to weave a new woolen robe that they used to dress

D. Records from ancient Athens indicate that each year young Athenian women collaborated to weave a new woolen robe with which they dressed

E. Records from ancient Athens indicate each year young Athenian women had collaborated to weave a new woolen robe for dressing

I'm really confused about a few things. I understand why the OA is correct as it is both parallel and lacks idiom/modifier errors. Here are my questions:

1) Why is "based on..." more incorrect that "according to..." Of course both those answers are incorrect, but don't they both suggest the "young Athenian women" are collaborating to weave the dress (based on/according to) records from ancient Athens? Or are they both equally correct hence why choices A~C is wrong?

2) Why is the past perfect tense here incorrect? Assuming B or E may be correct, why can we not interpret that these "young Athenian women" had at a time in the past conducted these activities, but that the conduct of such activities have long ceased, so an action or a series of actions completed in the past can still be validly expressed with the past perfect tense. My great grandmother had worked hard to weave many sweaters for me when she as young.

3) "that they used to dress" vs "with which they dressed" these two determine C or D. "They" is not unclear in C, at least I think, as it is perfectly logical to narrow the antecedent down to "young women" and not "records." I get the parallel structure exists in D with "Something indicates that blank and that blank." But why can't C also experience some parallelism? "Young Athenian women collaborated to weave a new woolen robe that they used to dress a statue of the goddess Athena and that this robe depicted scenes of a battle between Zeus, Athena's father, and giants."

Of course both those answers are incorrect, but don't they both suggest the "young Athenian women" are collaborating to weave the dress (based on/according to) records from ancient Athens? Or are they both equally correct hence why choices A~C is wrong? based on is incorrect because it is wrongly modifying"each year or young women" so based on is correct when used appropriately for eg " based on his behaviour, my actions are justified.. and according to is correct as used but C is wrong because of parallelism ..here 'that' is wrongly placed

My great grandmother had worked hard to weave many sweaters for me when she as young. had is used when comparing two past events... eg i had reached here before he called up...

3) "that they used to dress" vs "with which they dressed" these two determine C or D. "They" is not unclear in C, at least I think, as it is perfectly logical to narrow the antecedent down to "young women" and not "records." C is not parallel , if you remove the first part after first 'that' and substitute the second part of sentence after second'that', u will see it does not make sense
