Because HalleyтАЩs comet changes orbit slightly during the seventy-six-year interval between passing close to Earth, it may veer onto a collision course with a planet sometime in the distant future.
(A) between passing
(B) of passing
(C) between its passes
(D) of its passes
(E) as it passes
I believe "interval between two points in time is ok" Otherwise D looks fine. But the problem here is that if D is accepted we dont know how many times the comet has passed. The word "between" gives a clear indication that the sentence is talking about two passes.
I could be wrong here ( Because Paul has posted this Q ).
