Here the battle is b/w C and D. C wins bcos of usage of "demand in" study wrote: Because of less availability and greater demand for scientific research, platinum remains consistently expensive, like gold. There is a high demand for platinum. - demand for calls the noun which has demandPlatinum demand is high in research. - demand in calls where the demand is requiredE has wrong construction "that of", so, C is obvious.

Why is the construction of E wrong. Like is used for direct comparison. Here we are comparing the price of gold with the price of Platinum. All other sentences use like incorrectly to compare the price of gold with Platinum. In E, price of gold is compared with that of Platinum which makes it correct.
What is the OA?
My answer is E.

B, E out.. improper comparision ... comparing plantinum... with "that of gold" A, D are out.. "demand for" is not appropriate here. increased demand/greater demand should modify "platinum .. here it may means.. "increased demand for scientifc research" --- scientific research' demand increased. which doesn't make sense. C "demand in" makes sense. because plantinum less availablity and plantinum increased demand in scientif research --makes price expensive.

D is out for use of 'for'. C it is.

OA is C.
Can someone please explain the 'demand in' and 'demand for' concept again?
How can one have demand IN something?
Thanks

Thanks You must have a demand in specific area. Say, Story books have demand in library. But, Library demands for story books.

so the test in the question was on demand in vs demand for. I am confused abt less vs decreased. What is the rule governing this? I imagine that less makes sense as the supply is less. But there has to be an active cause to decrease the supply. Is this correct? x2suresh wrote: study wrote: Because of less availability and greater demand for scientific research, platinum remains consistently expensive, like gold.
