Question Stats:
0% (00:00) correct
0% (00:00) wrong based on 0 sessions
Before the Civil War, Harriet Tubman, herself an escaped slave, returned again and again to Maryland to guide other slaves along the Underground Railroad to freedom.
(A) herself an escaped slave, returned again and again to Maryland to guide
(B) being an escaped slave herself, returned again and again to Maryland so as to guide
(C) an escaped slave herself, returned again and again to Maryland to guide
(D) herself as an escaped slave, returned again and again to Maryland so as to be the guide of
(E) who had been herself as an escaped slave, returned again and again to Maryland for the guiding of
I understand that this SC was discussed a number of times. However, I tweaked one answer choice to make it more interesting . Can someone explain the difference between 'herself an escaped slave' and 'an escaped slave herself'? Any native speakers?

With the choices given above I would go with
(C) an escaped slave herself, returned again and again to Maryland to guide
B - Being
A - herself right after her name dint sound right.
D and E are wrong - guiding to, guide of

Do you think that 'herself an escaped slave' and 'an escaped slave herself' are different? If so, how?

I don't think they are different.
I just went for the better of the two.
I guess if you had something like this,
Sam dint want to hang around with slaves, herself an escaped slave.....I guess this would be ok.

Whats wrong w/ A? How about C? Which one is better, A or C?
C is must better as it describes the person quickly..
