B.
"to guide" is the right form. Between A and B, as A is starting with 'herself' B seems to be the better option.

I pick B
B) "so as to" is unnecessary
C) "for guiding" is not proper idiom
D) "so as to be the guide of" --> please save some words
E) past perfect is not needed since "before" clearly indicates two different events happening at different times

Sorry, yes, I meant A. My explanation was for A. I'm being careless lately

A it is.
did a bit of research on tubman...
here's the excerpt:
The most famous person associated with the Underground Railroad was Harriett (Harriet) Tubman, herself an escaped slave, who returned numerous times to lead groups of slaves north to freedom. She was a great and brave lady, since capture would have meant return to her master and possible death for helping others to escape. Tubman also was influential in publicizing the evils of slavery in the north.
It shows a detailed, embroidered map of eastern North America including the trails used by slaves through Appalachia to Canada, safe houses where travellers would find sanctuary. Shades of green are interworked with narrow strands of red showing pathways to freedom. There are embroidered buildings, all of them symbolic of Underground Railroad history. The eventual home of freedom guide Harriet TUBMAN, herself an escaped slave, appears at Rochester. There are white, stitched churches at a variety of terminal points on the Underground Railroad, including Owen Sound and Collingwood.

A it is. 22s.
I used POE.
Here's my explanation.
All other choices just didnt sound right
BD are wordy and awkard.
OG's fave phrase. "so as to" is not required here.
I think the idiom is "returned to"
"returned for" seems wrong. CE are out.

I think "guiding" is used here as verb and "for" is a preposition which demands Noun.
