Can you please tell me which book is best for understanding the rules, principles etc. that GMAT is based on?
I would also like to tell me what is your opinion about the The Official Guide for GMAT Review.

You can try the Kaplan verbal workbook. I think it will give you a good jump-start in GMAT verbal. MGMAT's verbal books are pretty useful too (there's two books in MGMAT guides for the verbal section, one for SC and the other for RC/CR).

Finally, the 11th Edition of the OG has a dedicated book for Verbal as well. I've not used it, but you can ask around from those who have used it for feedback/opinions.

I think PR has the best verbal review. The strategies are really good and easy to understand and actually use. I have both the overall review book, Cracking the GMAT, and the Verbal Workout book. I would recommend both, along with the 11th edition of the OG.

i would agree with PR and Kaplan, they have really good strategies and tips.

I just got the verbal edition and it just has more questions to do. The explanations (as always) are better than anyone elses though
