Best Route to lan into United Nations, IMF, World Bank ? [#permalink] New post 08 Apr 2010, 06:58
Hello,

1) Do UN,IMF,WB really come to , let's say, top 10 schools to recruit MBAs ?

2) Do MBAs from top 10, really prefer to work for these organisations or other non-profit ?

3) Which schools maximise the chance to land in any one of these organisations ?

Thanks.

Hi !

What would be the best entry route to enter into organizations like UN, ADB, World Bank, IMF, IBRD, IFC and IADB.
Would a banking experience of more than 10 years help ?
Which are the best schools to apply for considering this?
Are any E-MBA courses any better for entry into these organisations?
Are there any other factors which one needs to take into account? eg) languages

Cheers

1. They do, but not very many. This is at least in part due to interest.
2. Some do, some don't. People who want to go into nonprofit are a small number at any MBA program probably less than 10%. However, there are definitely some people that are interested in nonprofit. It just depends on career goals.

If you're set on going for these organizations though from what I know an MBA isn't the best route to go. They hire much more from international relations programs. Why an MBA if this is your goal? If you're set on an MBA a joint degree with somewhere like JHU's SAIS (which I know is highly respected in this area) might be something to consider. Not saying you can't get there with just an MBA, but just saying that an MBA isn't the best degree to get you there. And from what I know at strong proficiency in at least one foreign language is pretty much mandatory.
