You need to take GMAT at least 20 days before the application deadline (so that your official score is available to the target schools). Earlier is better since it gives one more time to solely focus on the app. But you also need to feel prepared for the test. So it is a balancing act and you yourself will need to take a call on when to schedule the test.

Actually i am not sure whether the universities will consider my application if i have given GMAT in November or December for fall 2014. Berkeley University has written that preferably GMAT and TOEFL should be taken by October for the following year Fall session. I am thinking to book GMAT and TOEFL in Nov or Dec. Due to my job nature i was not able study and got this late. Please help asap. Do not rush things because you have a submission deadline to meet. Bear in mind that it is the test result/score that counts after all. Before you go in for the GMAT test, be convinced within yourself that you are adequately prepared for the examination. In any case you are advised to take the GMAT long before your application deadline. I need some help and views on the same matter.I am planning to take Gmat on Nov 1st or October 31st ( 2 months interval from now).I am targeting all good U.S, Canada and Indian Bschools. My question is Nov 1st suitable date for gmat. I dont want to rush the test to meet the deadlines but at the same time I dont want to miss the deadlines as well. Should I choose an earlier date to take the exam? or will be able to apply to most of the good colleges, if I take it on Nov 1st. I would very much appreciate your reply. Hoping some one can provide little guidance here. Depends which round you are applying. You mentioned June -- are you applying R3? Try to account for the possibility of a retake. If you do not score well and need to do a retake, this make affect your scheduling. If you retake GMAT a few months later at the time when you were supposed to work on application essays, this is going to add a lot of stress to you. So plan ahead of that. Figure out your roadmap, account for risks for certain key parts, and adjust that roadmap so it works for you in keeping stress to a manageable level.

Hope that helps.

This is a question that every test taker must answer and there is no set answer.

Here are some general guidelines:
-If you can self report your scores, you can take the GMAT at any time before the deadline (even the day you submit the applications)
-Prepare to take 2 exams before the deadline
-Remember that you have to wait 31 days between exams (GMAT takes that long to cycle through questions)
-Recognize that the GMAT takes a while to prepare for and if you don't give yourself enough time to prepare you might have to apply to a later round or a future year
-Remember that you don't have to score a 750+ to get into a top school...schools accept students from a wide range of scores and the GMAT is only part of your application

If you find yourself really struggling with your GMAT timeline, you might see help from an admissions consultant to work up a timeline.
