correct idiom is X as prominent as Y not as prominent X as Y. So in C is the answer not D and E.

"it" in A,B and "that" in "E" are ambiguous => C,D left.
C: failure to advertise "the highest price...." as prominently as " the lowest" => correct
D: failure to advertise as "prominently the highest price...." as " the lowest" => incorrect (notice the comparison)

This sentence has a subject/verb issue. The main verb is "violates". The subject of that verb should be "failure" (the failure violates). Thus, only C or D work.

C is right because it also uses the correct idiom "as.... as".

Between Options C(advertise the highest price....as prominently as the lowest) & D(advertise as prominently the highest price as the lowest),

I would be obliged if someone explains from a 'meaning' perspective why option D is wrong. A similar example to explain will be even more appreciated.

Thanks in advance

'as the lowest' doesn't sound right. 'as that of the lowest' must have made more sense.

Can someone pls. explain...

(A) if you fail to advertise the highest price in a range of prices for a service or product as prominently as that of the lowest, it – Right Idiom: To advertise X(highest prices) as prominently as Y(lowest). But Wrong construction: ‘’If you fail, you violate…….’’. ‘That’ is ambiguous.

(B) if one fails to advertise the highest price in a range of prices for a service or product as prominently as the lowest price, it - Right Idiom: To advertise X(highest prices) as prominently as Y(lowest price). But Wrong construction: ‘’ If one fails, one violates…….’’

(C) failure to advertise the highest price in a range of prices for a service or product as prominently as the lowest – Correct. Right Idiom: To advertise X(highest prices) as prominently as Y(lowest).

(D) failure to advertise as prominently the highest price in a range of prices for a service or product as the lowest –Wrong idiom: To advertise as prominently X (highest price) as Y (lowest).

(E) failing to advertise as prominently the highest price in a range of prices for a service or products as that of the lowest – Failing is wrong. ‘Products’ must be singular to maintain parallelism. Wrong idiom: To advertise as prominently X (highest price) as Y (lowest).

Correct me if i am wrong somewhere in my logic......

Look at the meaning of the sentence -

'Failure to advertise the highest price of bla bla bla as prominently as the lowest' is the correct usage. :-)

'Of...' is a prepositional phrase and may be eliminated in order to check the usage more clearly. While the entire sentence is needed to understand the meaning, you can always ignore these prepositional phrases in order to quickly identify the usage.

Hope it clears your doubt.

Hi,

can anyone tell me why exactly A is wrong, I understood that it is wordy, but from a grammatical perspective what exactly is wrong with it?

Hi npin2,

According to Bureau, NOUN - is correct structure

in Choice A - According to Bureau, If you fail .... is not correct.

Pronoun "it" has no reference.

So choice A has modifier issue and pronoun reference issue.

(C) failure to advertise the highest price in a range of prices for a service or product as prominently as the lowest

C sounds better than the rest, but how "failure ...violates"? Only person/company can violate. "Failure ... is violation" would be correct.

Hi,

I think the subject here is 'failure to bla bla bla.....'

According to the Better Business Bureau, failure to advertise the highest price in a range of prices for a service or product as prominently as the lowest violates the New York Consumer Protection Law.

Hope it helps.

Just to add a meaning issue in A and E. "That of" is referring to the "range". This is not the intended meaning of the sentence.
