Am sorry no OE, but OA is

Responding to a pm:

A couple of things here:

1. Usage of 'as many as' or 'as much as'

From the way we use 'as many as', it is clear that the answer must be (E).
You can eat as many pies as you like. (After the second 'as' you don't repeat the word 'pies')
This year, she will not earn as much money as she did last year. (you don't refer to money again after the second as)

Similarly: there were as many people who lived in the suburbs as in large cities.

2. In options C and D, the use of the word 'those' is incorrect.
'those' refers to people but you are not comparing people. You are comparing the number of people.

Take an example: People of Michigan are friendlier than people of state X.
Here you are comparing people.

You can also write this as: People of Michigan are friendlier than those of state X.
Here, the use of those is correct.

A. there were as many people who lived in the suburbs as - should be there were as many people who lived in the suburbs as in B. there was as many people living in the suburbs as the - should be there was as many people living in the suburbs as in the C. as many people lived in the suburbs as those who lived in D. as many people lived in the suburbs as those in E. as many people lived in the suburbs as in C, D, and E are all grammatically correct: as many people lived in the suburbs as (those (who lived) in. The part in brackets is understood, and does not add or subtract the meaning of the sentence. So, by the criterion of concision, (E) is the most succinct. _________________ Kudos is the currency of appreciation. You can have anything you want if you want it badly enough.
