With one eye we should also observe the tense. I will choose A here also since the use of between..and is clean and the idiom from..to is also correctly used.

E is wrong because

"The growth of the global economy" is incorrectly compared with "what it did ".

D is wrong because exceeds should be exceeded. Past tense. 1990 - 2000 is in the past. I think it should be

A.

From today onwards...

From the day I saw her....

From Wednesday till today....

I prefer B since A, D, E are all using preposition it to refer to "the growth of the global economy". I think it should only be used to refer to a noun. Not sure!
Between B and C, B is better

There are all sorts of good tips to take from this one!

Between 1990 and 2000 the global economy grew more than it did during the 10,000 years from the beginning of agriculture to 1950.

(A) Between 1990 and 2000 the global economy grew more than it did during the 10,000 years from the beginning of agriculture
(B) Between 1990 and 2000 the growth of the global economy was more than that during 10,000 years, from when agriculture began
Note: In comparisons, if you want to compare one thing another use "that," and if you want to compare something to itself, use "it": For example: "The seat of chair A is more worn than that of chair B." v.s. "The seat of chair A is more worn than it was last week."
(C) The growth of the global economy between 1990 and 2000 exceeds that which had been for 10,000 years from the beginning of agriculture
"that which" IS ALWAYS INCORRECT ON THE SC!! (Find more tips like these at gmaxonline
(D) The growth of the global economy between 1990 and 2000 exceeds what it has been for 10,000 years, from when agriculture began
Phrase of parallelism: From A to B. Notice that A, here, is "what..." and B is "1950"
(E) The growth of the global economy between 1990 and 2000 exceeded what it did for the 10,000 years from the beginning of agriculture
See B

Hi!
Can you please explain how B violates the comparison rule? As you mentioned, if you want to compare one thing to another, you are suppose to use "that". B is comparing the growth of economy to one era to another. In my mind, they are NOT the same things i.e. two separate eras and two separate growths v/s in your example where it is the same chair that is in different state from a week before. :?: :?
It is like comparing growth of economy, say, in US and Mexico and considering them one in the same...

"did" is the key. A remains.
B and D - gone. "when" - spoilers
C - exceeds that
E - exceeded what
Both C and E wrongly constructed.

Can anyone please explain what is wrong with B

(A) Between 1990 and 2000 the global economy grew more than it did during the 10,000 years from the beginning of agriculture
it - refers to the same - global economy.
looks fine to me

(B) Between 1990 and 2000 the growth of the global economy was more than that during 10,000 years, from when agriculture began
That - refers a new copy - in this case - the growth of global economy - again the growth is different in each case hence this too looks ok
my take was the placement of comma after 10,000 years, from when...
