Big 4 Internships

I'm planning on applying for a Macc degree this coming fall. I graduated cum laude from Ole Miss with a degree in Political Science aspiring to attend law school after a year off. However, after lots of consideration I've decided to pursue a career in accounting instead. I minored in accounting, doing well and enjoying it surprisingly. I'm specifically looking to apply to schools in the southeastern U.S. because there are a few that do not require a huge amount of prerequisite business courses that I don't want to have to take before I start the Macc.
Wake Forest is the school I'm really focused on trying to get into right now because of their 3-semester program that provides for a 10-week "busy season" internship during the second semester of studies. I'm wondering about how location preference plays into the recruitment for Big 4 internships.
I don't particularly want to intern around North Carolina, because I don't want to live there after I graduate; and I've been led to believe that whichever city you intern at (especially at a Big 4 firm), that's where you are expected to start working if you are fortunate enough to be given an offer for full time employment at the end of the internship. I know several people at Ole Miss who did undergrad acct. and interned in cities all over the southeast including Charlotte, Atlanta, etc. If I were to request an office in another area of the country (with reason), would it matter to recruiters?
