BIG Speculation: Demystifying GMAT Format 2013 [#permalink]

Lawrence Rudner, VP of Research at GMAC just published a Demystifying the GMAT report about the next generation of GMAT Test format (coming in 2013 so don't panic yet) and the process of identifying what it will mean. From the report it sounds like Dr. Rudner still has quite a bit to go, but he did drop something out there for us to ponder on (maybe) at the very end when speaking about what schools would like to see tested on the GMAT (he described survey results) and apparently: Quote: The universally mastered skills, such as basic reading and mathematics skills, were excluded. So there is a good chance we won't have RC or PS or DS on the test in a few years.... what will it be? Coloring, stock picking, soft skills?

Will be funny if they change the format completely - what a bunch of questions/material will be wasted

I have very important question on this. Suppose GMAT is completely changed and for the test takes of 2011 and 2012, will they consider the Old Gmat scores for 5 years or we will have to give again in 2013.

I wouldn't be surprised if they headed towards more of an LSAT logic game type section.

Yikes. I just ordered my MGMAT books... I'm planning on taking it in 2012 so this change is a bit uncomfortable. Jeez, I hope I won't have it to take it again. Maybe the world will end by the then so this might be a moot point.

Yes thats also one of my concern. Is there any official information that GMAT will be valid for 5 years for those who will give exam before 2012? I doubt as colleges will ask for latest version of GMAT.

I am pretty sure it will as Mohater mentioned above There has been a change on the GMAT before; there have also been changes in other standardized tests, TOEFL comes to mind and results from both versions will be used. More than likely scoring will change to distinguish between the two tests. TOEFL went from 650 down to 300, and then down to 120. Possibly the same will happen with GMAT or maybe it will go up to SAT scores.

Quote: More than likely scoring will change to distinguish between the two tests. TOEFL went from 650 down to 300, and then down to 120. Possibly the same will happen with GMAT or maybe it will go up to SAT scores. What if they increase the max score? I remember when applying for undergrad that the apps only asked for the new SAT scores without any option of entering the older version. What happens if a company or school asks for GMAT scores? If there is a max score increase, then you're 700+ doesn't look too great anymore. I suppose I could wait until after the change. However, I would also need to wait for the new prep books to come out and goods ones usually take more than one edition...
