I'll go for A as well. we need "tell" because of "substances." also, answer A is parallel with the infinitives, and is idiomatic: both when to become .... and when to remain

A

substances is plural so choose tell for tells and eliminate C and D

E is awkward.. eliminate

Between A and B use of which time is incorrect, as its should be when for time... so choose A

Go for 'A'

'B' - both ....or ..... is it correct? for me it is incorrect. it should be both and right??
at which time.....is hanging there no parallel contruction

'C' - tells - plural - incorrect as substances - plural

'D' - Same as 'C' & 'B' - incorrect

'E' - usage of will is not correct.. here it is a discovery..a hypothetical happening, so cannot use future tense
again lacks parallelism

In C substances is plural so use tell instead of tells...

In B though tell is correctly used, but " which" wrongly modifies, instead use " when"

On an interesting, it is 'one of the substances' which could be singular....

'tells' is wrong because 'one of the substances' is followed by 'that'. Since 'that' modifies 'substances', the word following 'that' must agree with 'substances'.

Rule: 'one of the PLURAL + that/who', the word following 'that' must agree w/ PLURAL.
