Books / Strategies to avoid [#permalink] New post 25 Apr 2008, 18:14
I have been searching various threads trying to figure out what books are a waste and time and also which may offer poor or improper strategies. Maybe we can start one here.

I have heard the Kaplan books are basically a waste of time. Is this because the questions are not difficult or the strategies not helpful?

Also, the MGMAT Verbal RC and CR have poor strategies or are confusing???

Any insight into these or other materials to avoid would be great.

I felt the Barrons GMAT book was pretty ordinary. Also, the Princeton review book can be better termed "GMAT for dummies" , a good starting point, but very limited when it came to the more advanced GMAT concepts.

I would say avoid the McGraw-Hill books/CDs due to typos.

Good idea.

Kaplan does a poor job of emulating gmat questions. In fact all of the companies do a "not so great" job. That's why OG + supplements + GMATPrep are so important. On the other hand, Kaplan is clearly the worst. They put horns on a dog and call it a bull. Some of their quant review is good, but not enough of a reason to buy their stuff.

MGMAT quant = excellent
MGMAT SC = the be all, end all
MGMAT CR/RC = huh? Is this the same company?
