Hi Guys,

Please help me in determining the answer to this question.

There are hopeful signs that we are shifting away from our heavy reliance on fosil fuels; more than ten times as much energy is generated through wind power now than it was in 1990.

A. generated through wind power now than it was
B. generated through wind power now as it was
C. generated through wind power now as was the case
D. now generated through wind power as it was
E. now generated through wind power than was the case

Thanks,
Chellappa

I think it's D. I believe, the correct usage should be 'now generated' rather than 'generated .... now'.

A. generated through wind power now than it was(wrong--as much ...should be completed with as)
B. generated through wind power now as it was (Wrong--Try Replacing it with Energy(As Energy is the noun, which is getting compared) as much energy is generated through wind power now than ENERGY was--AWKWARD
C. generated through wind power now as was the case (CORRECT) (CASE can refer back to entire clause)
D. now generated through wind power as it was (Wrong--Try Replacing it with Energy(As Energy is the noun, which is getting compared)as much energy is generated through wind power now than ENERGY was--AWKWARD
E. now generated through wind power than was the case(wrong--as much ...should be completed with as)

I believe it is B.

Generated Now is the correct form in this case, and the IT in the end is perfectly fine, coz it comes out to be as energy is generated through wind power now as it was (generated) in 1990.

Anybody for "C"

I eliminated the rest in the following manner.
There is a hanging pronoun "it" which doesn't have a clear antecedent. I came across this problem for A, B and D

for E the sentence construct is awkward
