I check out woot.com periodically and saw a deal for Southwest flights. I figured why not post the deal here as well. Hopefully someone will find a decent deal for a school visit. Prices start at $30 one-way.

Check out airbnb.com too, an alternative to pricey hotel rooms (you'd be renting out people's apartments or rooms when they are gone or vacation homes).

For those that are nice and warm hosts / guests, couchsurfing.org is a great project to be a part of - consider it not as a hotel, but a way to find a local host, you'll be surprised at the kind of people who host - anyone from artists to gradstudents to working professionals!
I've hosted a few vistors and used CS myself as well!
