Use ‘native of’ for human beings only; for all others use ‘native to’; ‘native in’ is wrong; nativity is a universal factor; hence use present tense and A is the answer.

Here is my view :

X is native to Y

where X= Animal or species , Y = place or geographical region


X is Native of Y

Where X = Person/ people , Y = place or geographical region

attempt to control - Correct.
(B) are native in South America but were introduced into Florida during the 1930’s as
attempts to control - Incorrect
(C) are natives of South America but were introduced into Florida during the 1930’s in
an attempt at controlling - Incorrect
(D) had been native to South America but were introduced to Florida during the 1930’s
as an attempt at controlling - Had been can be used in conjunction with another activity that happened before it.
(E) had been natives of South America but were introduced to Florida during the 1930’s
as attempts at controlling - Same as D.

And why "Native to be used instead of native is explained in the above posts.
